The premise is that when flowing water meets an unmovable object, like a rock, rather than try to force it's way through the rock the water will simply flow around it. I believe as individuals we can learn, with minimal effort, to enjoy our lives and make a perceptible shift in the mental health crisis towards the world peace everyone would like to have.
My personal agenda is to shed light on anxiety and other neuro-differences that, in general, go unspoken about and in turn can cause long-term, needless suffering. In February 2022 I was admitted to a partial hospitalization program designed to help people with anxiety, depression and panic attacks. Prior to going to PHP I was having daily panic attacks and my social anxiety kept me from leaving the house most days. Thanks to the program and a few very supportive persons I was able to completely turn my life around. I lost 80 pounds, quit smoking cigarettes, changed my diet to exclude alcohol and caffeine and learned how to love life again. Now I want to pass on the lessons I have learned and share my love of creativity with those who may need a little extra opportunity or encouragement.
At the end of my PHP, I was given a small stone. This rock was passed to each person who I had shared my experience with during the program and they expressed their feelings about my time there, shared their aspirations and warm wishes for my future on my last day. This sentimental stone helped me to form the idea for Around the Rock. I, unfortunately, managed to lose the stone less than a week after leaving PHP. A close friend sympathized and explained that maybe the stone had already served it's purpose for me and now it was for someone else to find. Inspired and encouraged I utilized the free internet to teach myself to wrap stones so I would never have to lose one again. This quickly grew into painting and other crafts that I was able to teach and enjoy with my family and friends.
I'm hoping, through inclusive art and creativity, to bring together friends, family and strangers in a welcoming and confidence-boosting environment. Around the Rock is inclusive to all persons from all walks of life. It is our unique attributes and paths in life that enhances the beauty of our world. When we express ourselves through art we are reflecting our true selves out into the universe in ways for others to appreciate. When we create together, we learn about each other in unique ways you can't connect in front of a screen or distracted by daily chores and responsibilities.Around the Rock will be a dedicated place with ample resources to bring to life your imagination and to share your vision with others.
